魁北克 (1763–1791)是加拿大历史上存在于1763年到1791年的英属北美殖民地的名称。
历史
魁北克(Québec)这个名称源自于阿尔冈昆语词汇“kébec”,意指河川收窄之处,传统上是指魁北克市的周围地区,亦即圣罗伦斯河收窄至两岸皆面临悬崖的地域。早期该词也有其他的拼法例如:Québecq(Levasseur, 1601)和Kébec(Lescarbot 1609)[1]。法国探险家尚普兰在1608年选择了Québec为法属殖民地新法兰西行政中心的称呼[2]。该省通常也有“美丽之省”("La belle province")的意涵。
七年战争结束后,英法两国于1763签订《巴黎和约》,法国将法属加拿大割让予英国,英国并于同年公布《1763年皇家宣言》,正式成立魁北克省;这份谕令规定全省限缩于圣罗伦斯河的河畔。英国再于1774年通过《魁北克法案》,将魁北克省的范围延伸至包括五大湖、俄亥俄河河谷和鲁珀特地区(Rupert's Land)的南部,大致恢复该省在法国管治时期的边界[3]。美国独立战争结束后,英美在1783年签订的《巴黎条约》约定把五大湖区以南的领地划为美国所辖[4]。在1791年的《宪法法案》颁布后,魁北克省一分为二,分别为下加拿大(今日的魁北克)和上加拿大(今日的安大略省),这两个领地都可以选举出自己的议会[5]。1840年英国国会通过联合法案,上加拿大改称西加拿大,下加拿大改称东加拿大,两者并统编成加拿大联合省[6]。
