土司空(英语:Deneb Kaitos或Diphda)是位于鲸鱼座的一颗恒星,又称为鲸鱼座β(β Cet)。虽然编号为β,但土司空是鲸鱼座最明亮的恒星(鲸鱼座α的视星等只有2.54等)。
因为土司空位于夜空中的阴暗角落,所以人们可以很容易的观察到它的位置。土司空的绝对星等为−0.31等,视星等则为2.02等,因为它距离地球仅96.3光年,所以土司空是距离最近的明亮恒星之一。
特征
土司空的视星等为2.02等[2],是鲸鱼座最明亮的恒星。这颗恒星被天文学家分类为K0 III型恒星[3],虽然有些天文学家认为应该是属于G9.5 III型恒星[5],显示土司空介于G型恒星与K型恒星之间。光度“III”表示土司空原本是一颗A型主序星[5],但是现今已经将核心的氢消耗殆尽,成为一颗巨星。土司空在通过红巨星阶段之后,它经历了氦闪现象,目前正经由核心的氦热核聚变来产生能量[12][13]。土司空将在目前这种模式下停留超过100万年之久[10]。
这颗恒星的角直径已经经过天文学家测量,经过周边昏暗的调整后,数值大约是5.31 ± 0.06角分[6]。根据视差测量的结果(范围是太阳半径的17倍)[1][7][14],天文学家估计土司空距离地球为96.3光年(29.5秒差距)。恒星外层的有效温度约为4797K[8],所以土司空带有K型恒星的橙色特征。尽管它的温度比太阳还低,土司空的亮度大约是太阳亮度的145倍[7],质量则是太阳质量的2.8倍[5]。
这颗恒星持续进行氦热核聚变,有时会产生随机性的耀斑爆发,导致土司空的亮度增加,并持续数天的之久。土司空的耀斑爆发比太阳活动更久,太阳的耀斑爆发时间通常以小时来计算[12]。2005年,欧洲空间局的XMM-牛顿卫星侦测到一次不寻常的耀斑爆发[5]。它发出的X射线光度大约是太阳的2000倍[15],也让钱德拉X射线天文台得以拍摄土司空的相关照片[10]。
词源
土司空在阿拉伯语中被称为ألضنبألقيتوسألجنوب ,表示“鲸鱼南方的尾巴”。土司空的另一个名称则是“青蛙”,来自于阿拉伯语الضفدعالثاني (意为第二只青蛙,第一只青蛙则是北落师门[16])。
在中国天文学中,鲸鱼座β被称为土司空,意思是负责土木建造的官员,属于奎宿[17]。土司空被R·H·艾伦西化为Too Sze Kung,意思是土木建造的监督者[18]。
