作業系統份額，是指在電子計算裝置中運行作業系統的市場佔有比例。作業系統份額常因用戶升級、降級或更換使用之裝置而產生變化。目前全球使用人數最多的作業系統為Google公司推出的Android，截至2017年擁有超過26億名用戶[2]；微軟公司推出的Windows作業系統則有超過14億名用戶，是個人電腦份額最高之作業系統。

Windows自1990年代起，因為個人電腦的興起，曾稱霸作業系統市場達10餘年[3][4]；隨着近年流動裝置興起，流動裝置作業系統如Android、iOS等用戶大幅增加，Android更於2017年超越Windows，成為使用人數最多的作業系統[5][6]，宣告電腦主宰市場的時代逐漸終結[7]。

值得注意的是，由於精確計算作業系統的使用人數十分困難，市場調查公司多利用間接數據如聯網裝置數、裝置銷售量等估計作業系統市佔率，因此最終得出的數據並不會完全準確。

個人電腦市場部分，微軟推出的Windows作業系統一直是市場的領導者，根據2018年Statcounter的調查，Windows份額高達82.46%，大幅領先主要競爭對手macOS的12.49%[8]。

這些資訊是從互聯網瀏覽器的用戶代理字串推導出的。 這並不完全可靠， 因為：

  • 互聯網瀏覽器並不總是提供準確的資訊給伺服器。
  • 報告也許只是針對某些專門的作業系統。
  • 很多電腦因為防火牆或者過濾器而不能瀏覽一些網站。
  • 有些電腦並未與互聯網連接。
  • 有些電腦同時執行多個作業系統（模擬）或者不同時間執行不同的作業系統（多次重新啟動動）
  • 統計方法（網站列表，作業系統的判定，時段的計算，個體的存取用戶，網頁的點擊或者網站的點擊）也許並未完全符合電腦這個領域。
  • 某個電腦也許會被統計多次，而其他的卻沒有被統計。
  • 使用某個作業系統的用戶也許在其他電腦上執行另外的作業系統。

例如，以下數據顯示Linux 只有0.8%的使用份額，是由IDC， Gartner做出的調查。而其他的調查則顯示linux的使用份額遠遠高於這個數字。 W3schools.com的網站統計顯示出2007，Linux使用份額3.4%，遠大於0.8%。 源網站出現的作業系統也包括在內，並且最大佔有至少0.1% 的份額。
