页岩油，也称母页岩油或油页岩油，是一种非常规石油。制备方法是加热分解油页岩，加氢或热溶解。这个过程把在岩石中的有机物质转变为合成石油和天然气合成原料。所得的油状物，可以立即作为燃料或用于提供炼油厂。原料的性质可以通过加入氢和除去杂质如硫和氮等来改变。其制成的产品可用于和原油相同的目的。

历史

油页岩是首先被人类使用的矿物油 [1]，其历史最早可追溯到14世纪早期的瑞士和奥地利。[2] 1596年,符腾堡公爵腓特烈一世的私人物理学家写下了它的治疗功效 [3]页岩油在17世纪的摩德纳的街道照明。[3] 英国国王在1694年把一个专利授予3个人，专利的内容是从某种石头中提取沥青和焦油。[3][4][5]不久后，这3人推出产品英国贝顿矿物油（Betton's British Oil）。这种产品号称：“经多人试用，证明可以减少疼痛。” [6]现代的页岩油工业建立于1830年代的法国以及1840年的苏格兰。 [7] 当时，这种油被用作燃料，提炼沥青，以及作为灯油，尤其被用作替代昂贵的鲸油。[3][8] [9] 19世纪末期，已经有很多国家建立页岩油开采工业。但是，随后发现的石油使页岩油工业迅速衰落。时过境迁，到了21世纪，石油储量愈发紧张，页岩油的开采又被多个国家重新提上日程。[7][10][10]

储量

美国专家认为，俄罗斯页岩油储量几乎都蕴含于西西伯利亚巴热诺沃岩系的页岩油沉积层，在1.24兆桶总储量中，即使不考虑经济效益也只有6%可以开采。美国能源信息局估计，全世界页岩油总储量为3450亿桶，其中俄罗斯750亿桶，美国580亿桶，中国320亿桶。近年来，俄卢克石油公司、俄罗斯石油公司同美国埃克森美孚石油合作、俄罗斯天然气石油公司同壳牌公司合作，计划开始对页岩油进行试验性开采。和俄罗斯情况不同的是，由于压裂和定向钻井技术的广泛应用，美国页岩油开采已达石油开采总量的30%。由于页岩油储量的存在，使国际市场原油价格在对伊朗进行制裁的情况下依然能一直保持在每桶120美元以下。
