阿拉瓜伊尼亚陨石坑(Araguainha Crater 或 Araguainha Dome)是一个位于巴西马托格罗索州和戈亚斯州交界上,城镇阿拉瓜伊尼亚和蓬蒂布兰卡之间的陨石坑[1]。该陨石坑直径40公里,是南美洲已确认的第二大陨石坑,仅次于未确认是陨石坑的比查达撞击结构,目前也是南美洲最古老的陨石坑。
最近研究判定该陨石坑的年龄约2.547 ± 0.025 亿年,并且形成区域可能是浅海。它的年龄误差范围和地球史上规模最大的其中一个灭绝事件二叠纪-三叠纪灭绝事件相重叠。形成该陨石坑的撞击穿透了属于巴拉那盆地的古生代沉积地层,使下方形成于奥陶纪的花岗岩基岩暴露。该陨石坑最初形成时直径约24公里,深度2.4公里。之后因为坑壁向坑内崩塌,使直径扩大为40公里。
描述
阿拉瓜伊尼亚陨石坑是一个内有同心圆状和放射状断层群的复杂陨石坑,其暴露的表面受到侵蚀,并且被阿拉瓜亚河穿过。该陨石坑中心是向上突起的结构,形状像一个椭圆形的盆地,并且由花岗岩基岩组成。在中心周围是一圈由受到震波影响的花岗岩组成,上方被角砾岩覆盖的环状结构。另外还有一个直径6.5公里,高度150米的环状山脊,由形成于泥盆纪的褶曲且高倾角砂岩层组成。陨石坑中间区域被环状的凹陷区域环绕,并且该区域底部岩石是泥盆纪和石炭纪的砂岩。陨石坑的外环则是在高度变形的石炭-二叠纪沉积岩中存在的半圆形地堑残余。该区域因为发现了破裂锥、撞击角砾岩和冲击石英等证据而被确认是陨石坑[2]。
测年、解析和影响
对阿拉瓜伊尼亚陨石坑地质构造最早的研究报告于1969年由 Northfleet 等人发表,该论文指出当地的上升区域是白垩纪的正长岩侵入显生宙的沉积岩造成[3]。Silveira Filho 和 Ribeiro 在1971年对当地进行更详细的地质调查,指出在中心区域周围有熔岩、角砾岩和凝灰岩的存在,并提出当地是潜火山结构的结论[4]。1973年罗伯特·迪茨和 B.M. French 的研究报告指出发现了撞击角砾岩和冲击石英,确认它是陨石坑[5][6]。阿尔瓦罗·彭特亚多·克罗斯塔在1981和1982年发表的论文中提出更多岩石学和矿物学上的证据进一步证明当地是陨石坑[7][8]。Theilen-Willige 于1981年发表的论文则是从地貌学的角度提出它是陨石坑的证据[9]。Deutsch 等人于1992年首次对阿拉瓜伊尼亚陨石坑以铷锶测年法测年(2.43 ± 0.19亿年)[10]。Engelhardt 等人同样于1992年发表了对该陨石坑中心隆起处详细调查后的结果,并提出2.46亿年的测年结果,之后再改为2.44亿年[11]。Fischer 和 Masero 则在1994年时对当地进行地磁调查[12]。
阿拉瓜伊尼亚陨石坑最新的测年结果是2.547 ± 0.025亿年,上方被二叠-三叠纪交界的地层覆盖[13]。许多当地的岩石是油页岩。形成该陨石坑的能量释放经计算并不足以直接导致全球性灭绝事件,但巨大的震动会使当地大量的石油和天然气从受震岩石中被释放。这次撞击事件也许使全球暖化突然发生,加快了二叠纪-三叠纪灭绝事件的过程[14]。
造访路线和保护
可从戈亚尼亚或库亚巴开车到达阿拉瓜伊尼亚陨石坑。该陨石坑中心隆起处被阿拉瓜伊尼亚和 蓬蒂布兰卡 之间的无铺面公路 MT-306 穿过。直到1999年以前当地居民并不了解该陨石坑的性质以及在科学上的重要性[2]。
