家庭自动化（Home automation），是指家庭中的建筑自动化，也被称作智能家庭（smart home）。在英文中也有 Domotics 的称呼。家庭自动化系统能够控制灯光、窗户、温湿度、等，他也可能同时包含家庭保全，例如出入控制或者是警报器。[1]家庭自动化主要有三个优点: 1)减少对环境的影响：通过控制窗户的摆设, 利用自然光，通风或遮荫，确保需要电力和光时才启用系统，减少能源和水的使用。 2）改善生活质量：智慧家庭提供适当的暖气，制冷，照明和浇水（3)在智能家居中使用自动化系统, 节省电费和水费,提供可持续的室内环境[2]。

当连上了互联网后，家庭设备变成智能网中重要的成分。一个典型的家庭自动化系统透过中心化的Hub或者是匣道器（Gateway）进行连接。 使用墙壁上的终端、智能手机、个人电脑或者是网页界面来当作控制系统的使用者界面，他们也有可能透过网络来达成远端（Off-site）操作。

虽然目前有很多竞争厂商，然而却没有多少世界共通的工业标准，智慧家庭空间严重的被碎片化。[3]制造商有时会透过扣留文件以及诉讼来阻止独立的实作。[4]

2013年家庭自动化的市场市值约57.7亿美元，预测将在2020年达到128.1亿美元。[5]

目前世界上最多使用者的平台分别为Amazon的Alexa，Google的Google Home与Apple的Homekit。为了解决智慧家庭碎片化问题，Google与Amazon、Apple和Zigbee联盟携手共同推出“Project Connected Home over IP”计划。[6][7]

应用以及技术

根据Li[8]等人的说法。 智慧家庭有三代：

  • 第一代：具有代理服务器的无线技术，例如ZigBee automation；
  • 第二代：人工智能控制电子设备，例如Amazon Echo、Apple Homepod、Google Home、小米AI音箱（小爱同学）、小度音箱、天猫精灵；
  • 第三代：能与人类互动的机器人伙伴，例如Robot Rovio，Roomba；
