古突厥(突厥字母:𐱅𐰇𐰼𐰰:𐰜𐰇𐰛 Kök Türk,土耳其语:Gök Türk;维吾尔语:كۆك تۈرك Kök Türk;英语:Celestial Turks、Blue Turks或Kok Turks;塞语:Ttūrka,Ttrūka;[1]中古藏语:Drugu[1])是中世纪亚洲内陆的一个古突厥语游牧部族,使用古代突厥语,在匈奴帝国统治下,自原始突厥族分化出来,历经与周围原始蒙古族、原始印欧人、通古斯族以至于汉族等通婚后,形成突厥语民族先祖。曾隶属于匈奴与鲜卑之下,在土门的领导下,突厥部落建立了强大的突厥汗国,并因此得名。
除了建立突厥汗国之外这支之外,同时期的其他古突厥人,建了各个不同的部落国家,这些其他古突厥部落,在突厥汗国建立后,仍称铁勒或敕勒,后形成回纥。在西方以至于欧洲一带,尚有钦察、保加尔人、巴尔卡尔人等古突厥人。
词源
古突厥语为 𐱅𐰇𐰼𐰰 Türk,[2][3]或𐱅𐰇𐰼𐰰:𐰜𐰇𐰛 Kök Türk(突厥语意为“蓝突厥”或“天突厥”)[2][3]。汉语“突厥”之名始见于《周书》卷二七《宇文测传》。在西方文籍中始见于东罗马人阿伽提亚斯(?-582)著作,作Kök Türk。现代西方文献中的Göktürk是 古突厥语Kök Türk的现代土耳其语形式。

突厥的起源并未有定论,大致可以确定的是,他们可能带有匈奴的血统。 《北史》记载“突厥者,其先居西海之右,独为部落,盖匈奴之别种也。另一说出自平凉杂胡。又曰突厥之先,出于索国,在匈奴之北。”
