信仰(英语:Faith ),拉丁语fides and 旧法语feid,[1]是对一位,一个,一件,或者是一种概念的坚信不疑和置信, 包括对某种思想或宗教的信赖和敬仰。[1][2] 《斯坦福哲学百科全书》[3]认为“信仰”是一个广义术语,出现在表达各种不同概念的语言中; 从最普遍的意义上讲,“信仰”(Faith) 与“信任”(Trust) 的含义大致相同。但哲学上对信仰的叙述和讨论几乎完全是局限于有神论的宗教信仰,既对上帝的信仰。而且通常,它们处理的是亚伯拉罕传统(Abrahamic traditions)中的基督教分支中所理解的信仰, 尽管没有排除其它方面的信仰。

宗教的概念上,可以把信仰分为信心信任两种。[4] 信仰宗教的人常常以信仰为他们的信心,将信仰看作是不证自明的,[5][6] 而其他对信仰有怀疑的不承认神灵存在的倾向于认为信仰是一种没有证据信条[7]

信仰与信念的关系

信念(英语:belief, belief-that),信念是个人判断和选择事物真伪的思想意识,信念的正确与否取决于个人的知识水平包括推理能力。

信念可以被描述为对命题正确与否的态度, 有别于信奉(Belief-in)。 信奉(Belief-in)与信任(Trust)或信仰(Faith)等概念更紧密相关,因为它通常是指对人的态度。在许多宗教传统中扮演着中心角色,其中“信奉上帝”是其信徒的核心美德 (也称信仰上帝)。 [8]

批评

哲学家瓦尔特·阿诺德·考夫曼在他的著作《The Faith of a Heretic》定义信仰为:一种强烈的信念,通常表现为对缺乏足够证据的、不能说服每一个理性人的事物的固执信任[9]

进化生物学家 理查德·道金斯在其著作《上帝错觉》中批判他所认为的与科学证据直接冲突的所有信仰。教育孩子"信仰本身就是一种美德"的观点,实际是真正有害的做法。信仰之所以邪恶,恰恰是因为它不需要理由,也不需要争论。 灌输给孩子们"不用置疑的信仰是一种美德",可能会让他们长大成为未来圣战或十字军东征的潜在致命武器, 尤其是在某些不难获得的其他因素的影响下[10]。他将信仰描述为没有证据的盲信, 一个积极的不思考的过程。他指出,这种做法只会让任何人仅凭个人思想和可能扭曲的感知(不需要对自然进行检验)提出关于自然的断言(主张); 这种做法,降低了我们对自然世界的理解,没有任何能力做出可靠且一致的预测,并且无需同行评议。[11]

1979诺贝尔物理学奖获得者史蒂文·温伯格警示人们, 世界需要从漫长的宗教信仰噩梦中醒来;对我们科学家来说,为削弱宗教信仰而可以做的任何事情都应该去做,实际上这可能是我们对文明的最大贡献。宗教是弊大于利的。[12]他还认为:无论有没有宗教,好人都会做好事,坏人都会做恶事。 但是,若你想要好人做恶事,就需要宗教了。[13]
